Our guided kayak trips are designed to teach kayak anglers how to be better anglers. After our extremely successful 2024 and 2025 seasons, we have decided to double down on what works best for us and focus on teaching you how to fish out of your kayak, with your gear.
What’s Included, and what’s not:
Clients are responsible for having the following equipment in safe and functional condition:
Pedal Drive Kayak - Pretty much any pedal drive is good to go for inshore fishing. For big water trips I get a little bit more picky about the kayak, but as long as I feel comfortable that it can handle the water and make it back in one piece, we’re good.
Kayak Cart - A quality kayak cart is required, sand tires are required if we are beach launching. CBBT is a long push across very soft sand. A $50 cart with plastic tires will not do the job. Wilderness Systems, Yakattack and Hobie carts are some of the better carts.
Rod and Reel - Doesn’t need to be fancy. I recommend a medium or med/heavy with a 3000 to 5000 size reel with 20-40lb braid, but check below for trip specific requirements.
PDF - Life vests are a must, and they must be worn at all times.
Food, water and Ice - This one gets overlooked a lot. It’s going to be a LONG day in the sun with LOTS of pedaling. Bring food and water! If you want to keep fish, bring ice.
Sun screen, bug spray, etc. - Bugs aren’t usually bad, there’s usually some wind, but the Sun will cook you if you forget the sun screen.
Clothing - The water will usually be warm, but consider the weather before we head out. Long pants, sun shirt, hat, sun glasses, etc.
Paperwork - A state specific SALTWATER fishing license is required (E.g., you will need a FL license to fish in FL). It is also required that you read our cancellation policy and read and sign our liability waiver.
That’s what you need to bring - Now, what’s included?
Bait - The most important thing about catching fish is the bait. For sheepshead, fiddler crabs are where it’s at, they are also freaking expensive, and usually half dead by the time you get them from the tackle shop. Not here! Fresh caught, wild fiddlers are included with every sheepshead trip. For any other trip the necessary live bait will be caught the morning of or while we are fishing during the trip.
Tackle - Probably the second most important thing, quality tackle. Gamakastu, Spro and Owner hooks and terminal tackle, locally cast lead and high quality leader material is all included with every trip. Usually all you will need is your rod and reel with braid on it, but check below for trip specific requirements.
Back up rod - I do carry at least one back up rod and reel with me, just in case something happens to yours. The replacement value of my backup rod and reel is $200 if it is lost or damaged.
One heck of a good time - Let’s catch some fish, have some laughs, and go home safe at the end of the day!
What’s not allowed?
Anything illegal - This is pretty cut and dry. No illegal drugs, no alcohol, no unethical or unsportsmanlike conduct.
Recording of any video or audio during the trip.
Guided trip specific rules:
There are a few rules that clients need to follow while on my guided trips. These are self imposed rules that go above and beyond local laws.
All sheepshead over 20” must be released.
All striped bass must be released.
You will be asked to certify that you have read and signed our Cancellation Policy and Liability Waiver while scheduling. Please take a look at them in the links provided before hand.
Availability and online booking:
We are currently scheduling trips for WEEKDAYS year round. I typically keep Fridays open for weather related rescheduling, but if you need a Friday, I will do my best to make it happen. We do NOT run any trips on weekends or holidays.

Want to get on the sheepshead bite? You're in luck! Kayak fishing for sheepshead is our specialty! Sheepshead are an elusive and sneaky fish that are fun to catch while also being absolutely delicious to eat!
We offer 5 hour trips to places like Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the concrete ships at Kiptopeke. On days with rougher weather, we will explore the inshore waters of Lynnhaven Inlet, Owl Creek, Rudee Inlet and Fisherman’s Island. The Location is NOT guaranteed and will be weather dependent!

From late August to mid September our focus will shift from sheepshead to cobia, and just as quickly shift again to bull reds.
Cobia are by far the hardest fighting fish in the Chesapeake Bay and a STRICT set of rules must be followed any time a cobia is caught.
Only clients who have fished with Salty Kayak Adventures in the past can book a cobia trip.
A heavy or extra heavy rod with a 5000-8000 sized spinning reel or heavy conventional reel is required.
Any sharks that are caught must be cut free immediately, there will be absolutely NO attempt to land, unhook, or boat any shark, regardless of size.
ALL cobia will be boated and brought to shore by a Salty Kayak Adventures guide. NO client will boat or attempt to boat a cobia for any reason.
If a keeper cobia is caught and the client chooses to keep the fish, everyone must return to the beach immediately and the trip ends at that time.
Keeper fish MAY be released if the client chooses to, but if the fish can not be revived to swim off healthy the fish must be kept to prevent waste.
Two party trips are allowed, but keep in mind that you are cutting your chances of catching a fish in half. If a keeper fish is landed by one person, the entire party will need to return to the beach.
Booked cobia trips may convert into bull red trips. If the cobia leave early or if the weather pushes your trip later into the season, we will be fishing for bull reds instead of cobia. If you are ONLY interested in fishing for cobia and unwilling to change, please do not book.

Our Florida Trips run from mid October through the end of December. January - March trips may become available later in the year.
Our Florida trips are booked by the week only and can be tailored to a variety of experiences, just let me know what you may be looking for. When booking a trip, you have the option of fishing one, two or three days of any given week. Having a bit of flexibility will prevent weather delays.
For example, if you want to fish one day in November, you will book the Monday of the week that you wish to fish. As that week gets closer, we will watch the weather and fish the BEST day that week (Monday - Thursday excluding holidays).
If you are looking to fish a specific area of Florida outside of our normal range send a text as soon as possible so I can start looking into accommodations for that area. All areas outside our range will have a destination fee to cover travel, lodging, etc.
